    There passed away an old identity of Drake, on 21st inst, Mrs Eliza Ann Ford at the age of 78 years. The late Mrs Ford was born at McLeod’s Creek 78 years ago. About 57 years ago she was married to Mr Peter Ford. She has resided at Drake during the greater portion of her married life, except for a while in Tenterfiled.
    There survive four sons and two daughters and there are four children predeceased. The surviving children are: Mrs A Payne (Sydney), Herbert Ford (Sydney), Clarence Ford (Grafton), Daniel Ford (East Sydney), Claude Ford (Sydney) and Mrs W H Baird (Townsville).
    The funeral under the direction of Mr J P Cooper took place on 23rd December. Mr H Doyle read the prayers at the graveside. There were many beautiful floral tributes.

    11 July 1825, and served nearly 21 years service. On Peter's Birth
    certificate it states that his father was a "Police constable" at
    Tenterfield. He was a policeman at Grafton in 1864, and it is
    thought that he was with the Gold Escort.
    Came to Australia to look after convicts.
    Sent to India in 1830 to fight in war. Returned to Ireland and tthen to NZ aboard Ship of Sorrows
    Fencible soldoier in NZ. Cranted land sold this and came to Glen Innes/Tenterfield.

    Mr J Hooton, aged 74, who had been bedridden for some weeks, died on Tuesday evening after weeks of suffering. He was followed by a long funeral next day, and was buried by the Rev H L Cecil. [Deceased leaves a large number of relations, among them being the Merchant family of Tenterfield and Mr S Pierpoint of Stanthorpe, with all of whom we sympathise] Ed. STAR

    Death at Drake
    Mrs Rebecca Hooton
    A very old and highly respected resident of Drake in the person of Mrs Rebecca Hooton, passed away on Monday last at the age of 89 years. The old lady had been in failing health for some time. She was a native of London, and married there. Her husband, the late Mr Joseph Hooton, predeceased her by some 20 years. She was of a very kindly and generous disposition and had won the respect and affection of the whole of the people of the Drake district. The children left to mourn include Mesdames S Merchant (Tenterfield), E Ford (Drake), E Pierpoint (Stanthorpe), F Parker (Drake), and E Hoult (Stanthorpe) and Messrs G Hooton (Riverview, Tabulum), R Hooton (Drake), William (Brisbane), E Hooton (Casino), and D Hooton (Casino). The remains were interred in the Church of England portion of the Drake cemetery on Tuesday last. Mr Manning of the Bush Brotherhood officiated at the graveside. The funeral arrangements were in the hands of Messrs H Corp? and Sons. Besides the 10 children living, deceased is survived by 60 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
