Obituary
Mr W A Ferris
The funeral took place today of the late Mr William Aubrey Ferris, of 118 Niagara Street, Armidale, who died on Friday at the age of 81.
He was a staunch supporter of St Mary’s Church at West Armidale, and at one time was a chuchwarden of St Peter’s Cathedral.
In his younger days he was a great sportsman, an enthusiast of tennis, cricket and football, and was president of the West Armidale Football club for many years,
For about 20 years he was in the haulage business, and carried all the girders for the Teachers’ College.
Later he took over a small sheep property named Brookvale.
He and Mrs Ferris celebrated their diamond widding on February 14.
he leaves a wife, two sons and three daughters, Hugh (Armidale) Athol (Sydney); Mrs Zillah Cowley and Mrs June Jackson (Armidale) and Mrs Edna Davies (Brisbane). Another son, Noel, was killed while serving in the Fleet Air Arm in Wales.,
There was a large attendance of mourners at the service in St Peter’s Cathedral conducted by the Dean, the Very Rev E W Wetherell. [10]
