      Uralla Times 20 August 1931
      Mr Martin Egan, whose health had been failing for some time, died last Monday aged 74. Mr Egan had a seizure and died suddenly at 4 a.m.
      Deceased came to Australia, from Ireland, as a lad of 19, in company with his sister, Mrs Shanahan, and they settled at Uralla. For many years he lived on his property, Malane, near Uralla, but some time ago disposed of his interests, and came to live in Uralla with his daughter, Mrs McDonald. Deceased is survived by four daughters - Mesdames T.V. Brennan (Armidale), J McDonald (Uralla), H Carlon (Salisbury Plains), J Murray (Wollun), and by three sons - Messrs Martin (Malane), Thomas and William, Uralla. There are 27 grandchildren. Mrs Egan, who was a daughter of the late Mr William Ryan, predeceased her husband by some years. A daughter also died some time ago, and a son died from injuries received in a railway accideent.
      The burial took place in the old cemetery on Tuesday. The funeral was one of the largest seen at Uralla for a long time, those present, in addition to the relatives, including many friends of the family. Rev. Father McGrath conducted the service.
