      Armidale Express 28 September 1888
SERIOUS ACCIDENT - We regret to learn that Mr E Dawson, while on his way home yesterday afternoon, met with a very severe injury. It appears that the horse Mr Dawson was driving became frightened and bolted, when the winners slipped off, and Mr Dawson, who is an elderly man, after a vain endeavour to pull the horse up, became exhausted. The horse took another start, and eventually overturned the dray in a gully, precipitating the occupant upon his head, which was sufficient to cause insensibility for some hours. The sufferer was at once removed to the hospital.

      Armidale Express 2 October 1888
Mr E H DAWSON - We are sorry to record the death of Mr Dawson, who, as our readers are aware, met with an accident on his road home last Thursday afternoon by his dray capsizing and throwing him on his head. From that time till his death, which happened at 3 a.m. yesterday morning, he never regained consciousness. Many of his friends and relations, of which the latter he has a considerable number, visited him during his last hours. Mr Dawson was 66
years of age, and a very old and respected resident of this district.
