The old lady had been in failing health for some time. She was a native of London, and married there. Her husband, the late Mr Joseph Hooton, predeceased her by some 20 years. She was of a very kindly and generous disposition and had won the respect and affection of the whole of the people of the Drake district. The children left to mourn include Mesdames S Merchant (Tenterfield), E Ford (Drake), E Pierpoint (Stanthorpe), F Parker (Drake), and E Hoult (Stanthorpe) and Messrs G Hooton (Riverview, Tabulum), R Hooton (Drake), William (Brisbane), E Hooton (Casino), and D Hooton (Casino). The remains were interred in the Church of England portion of the Drake cemetery on Tuesday last. Mr Manning of the Bush Brotherhood officiated at the graveside.
